What I eat in a day for hormone health

October 4, 2020 by Ivy Chan

Dear good people of the interwebs, I mention on Instagram the supplements and herbs I used/ have been using/ recommend for specific conditions. Although special herbs, dietary restrictions, or lifestyle considerations may differ depending on one’s condition and constitution, there are certain principles that we can all agree on, and begin with. These are the…

5 brands that are making life easier for this busy mama bee

September 18, 2020 by Ivy Chan

I’m not the busiest mum in the world. There are millions of women who are heroes, plain and simple. I’m humbled every time I even think of what my sisters throughout the world are going through every.day. Still, we all experience our own realities through our own perspectives. Just like the air completely coats wherever…

My favourite (ayurvedic) skin care products- plus, a wonderful mix for hormone health!

July 5, 2020 by Ivy Chan

I have been writing this post in my mind for weeks, but it’s been unusually busy recently that I simply could not find the time to actually type it. Alternatively, I’m getting worse at time-management, but I don’t want to dwell on that if you don’t mind. We have more important things to talk about!…

How to Detox: The I-Have-No-Idea-What-I’m-Doing Guide

June 13, 2020 by Ivy Chan

If you are one of those people who love to say “our liver does the job of detoxing!”, you are right. It does. But even our incredible bodies need a rest from time to time- especially if your diet has not been ideal, recently. Many detox teas, programmes or powders might be a gimmick, but…

Yoga moves to calm the mind and soothe the body

March 26, 2020 by Ivy Chan

Dear friends, How are you? How are you dealing with all the anxiety COVID 19 has caused? It also brought to the surface our anxieties about death and illness, inadequacies in the healthcare systems throughout the world. We like to say that “we are in this together”, but everyone is affected differently, don’t you think?…

How I stopped emotional eating, and how you can, too!

January 9, 2020 by Ivy Chan

Imagine feeling wonderful every time you have a meal because you never eat more than you need, and only eat when you are hungry. No guilt, no shame; not “heavy” or “sick”.  Imagine that every meal is a blessing which fuels your body and feeds your mind. Imagine not obsessing over food, not being controlled…

clean products for big appetites

September 29, 2019 by Ivy Chan

Let me tell you one thing: I had no idea what hunger meant until I started breastfeeding. I always had a big appetite (it’s a family thing). Then came the pregnancy hunger everyone was warning me about. But none of that can compare to breastfeeding hunger. All of a sudden, this mama found herself unable…

Kitchen supplies I can’t do without

September 23, 2019 by Ivy Chan

One of the questions I get a lot on Facebook and Instagram is what my essential tools are in the kitchen. Here is the deal: There are tons of great equipment out there and I am sure we will add to this list at some point, but with the little one attached to my skirt…

Want to quit coffee? Try these instead

September 9, 2019 by Ivy Chan

I loved coffee. Until I didn’t. I grew to like the taste, I liked that it woke me up, but more than anything, I loved the whole ritual in the morning. And I know there are health benefits to it. (If you want to reduce your cholesterol levels, though, new research shows that you…

Dear partner: 4 things the stay-at-home-parent wants you to know

August 18, 2019 by Ivy Chan

It’s been a loooooong time. But I have two excuses, both so dear to my heart. 1) The baby. Omg, I had no time for anything. I always wanted a wild, energetic child, you know? And I’m blessed to have one now. But to be able to catch up with him, I stopped cooking for…

HELLO REAL LIFE!

Welcome! My name is Ivy. I am an academic by training and a foodie at heart, in a small but mighty body. Classical with a twist, married to the love of my life, a proud mum of two little lions, and one little human. We have recently moved to the gorgeous state of Washington. I am back to a 4-year school to study Ayurvedic nutrition and Traditional Chinese Medicine. When I have time from school and our two-year-old, I like to read, write, bake, and consume more Medjool dates and dried figs than anyone I know.

Shakingmytofu aims to make plant-based life convenient, affordable, and adaptable for everyone. I will be happy if I can bring a little more light, health, and peace to the daily life. Feel free to spend time, have a look at the recipes, lists of plant-based sources (from snacks to clothing), images and articles. Contact me anytime with queries, suggestions, and collaboration ideas at shakingmytofu@gmail.com or simply by filling out the form below. Look forward to hearing from you!
